MAIN EVENT The Indonesian government has declared that the Islamic Feast of Sacrifice or Eid al-Adha falls on Friday, July 31, 2020. The Religious Affairs Minister Fachrul Razi made the announcement after leading the  isbat  or confirmation meeting in Jakarta. BACKGROUND EVENT According to Fachrul, the decision was concluded in consideration of the result of  hisab  (reckoning the moon) and the report of  rukyatul hilal  (the moon observation). More than 12 sworn observers claimed to have seen a new moon. The  rukyatul hilal  confirmed that a crescent moon has been above the horizon at a height of between six to eight degrees, or 51 to 42 minutes, meaning that it will be present.
